The people behind The Lacuna Works
Lacuna - n. A gap or space to be used for creative purposes, where ideas can be realised.
Graham Guy
Writer, director, producer, photographer and founder of The Lacuna Works... Graham has been doing creative things for years but has only comparatively recently found his way into feature films. He is an experienced photographer, film maker, and writer, and has worked on a large
number of projects including documentaries, short films (several of which have featured in Short Film Corner at Cannes) and one feature, “Underwood”. He has also managed many high value
projects for various well known companies and is familiar with working on complex challenges.
Graham is also a fully qualified engineer which transfers effectively to the filming world where he
will develop solutions for filming issues that would otherwise require the purchase or hire of
expensive equipment.
Graham has his own photography website, and can be found on Facebook or Twitter. He also has an occasionally updated blog site.
Ben Slythe
The co-founder of The Lacuna Works, Ben moved into film production in 2004, making a series of short films that have been shown in a selection of festivals. He learned how to make films by picking up a camera and just getting on
with it. He has credits as a writer, director and producer and several of his films have been offered
at the Short Film Corner in Cannes. In 2008 he accepted the job of producing his first feature
film, 'Underwood', a low-budget supernatural thriller. Despite the tiny budget Underwood was
delivered on schedule and on cost and the experience gained through the project is now being
used to develop new feature films.
Before 2004 Ben spent most of his professional life in information technology, managing tens of
thousands of computer systems for some of the world's largest companies. The skills developed in
this high-pressure environment provide a sound footing for the business of film production.
Ben and Graham produce a weekly podcast which can be found here.
Angela Dee
Producer, casting director, and network event facilitator, Angela has also run talent agencies and worked with film and photographic studios, as well as forming theatre companies who performed in most of London's fringe. She has credits as a Producer, Casting Director, AD, and Actress and several of her films have been offered at the Short Film Corner in Cannes. Angela has trained professionally in Performance Arts and has done extensive acting in theatre and film, as well as working with teenagers to help them develop their own acting skills. Angela has produced and cast a varied number of short and feature films, and is currently working on developing 4 feature films and 5 shorts. In addition, Angela also comes from a sales marketing management background.
David Mussett
David started his career in TV in New Zealand, when he stumbled into the FM role at a local TV station. There he started to learn the basics of camera work, directing and lighting. Upon his return to England, David enrolled in a Media Production course where he took all that he had learned in television and applied it to video, learning above all that he loved making films. After college he found more TV work at a national station – bringing the reality of actual work crashing home – balancing the demands of producers, directors, talent, crew and guests whilst making sure every show ran like clockwork was a learning experience like no other. Whilst here, David truly learned the power that tea and biscuits has over a TV or film crew.
Joanna Rees
Producer, project manager, and general facilitator... We found out a while ago that no film is complete without Joanna on set, and it is a fact that Underwood would not have been made without her.
